Robin Williams, Oscar and Grammy-winning actor and comedian, died on Monday.
Williams was found dead in his California home shortly before noon (3 p.m. EST). The cause of death is an apparent suicide and has crushed everyone deeply. According to his publicist, Williams had been battling depression for years.
His wife, Susan Schneider, issued a statement expressing her grief, but wants everyone to recall the joyful moments Williams has given the world.
“As he is remembered,” she said, “it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
Robin Williams starred in countless films including Jumanji, Flubber, and the ever-so-popular Mrs. Doubtfire. Williams had also voiced Genie in Disney’s Aladdin.
