Summer Lovin’: Mentally Stimulating Activities for College Students

And just like that, in the blink of an eye, another college school year is under our belts. Whether this year ended the way that we wanted it to or not, we have survived it and are ready to conquer another in due time.  But until the breath of another school year is on the back of our necks we have time to breathe a little easier and enjoy the wonderful summer.

Summer is the only time in a college student’s life where there is enough time to actually focus on something other than menacing midterms, stressful finals, and unnecessary papers. I challenge everyone to take this extra time and, instead of wasting it watching the entire new season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix, try to focus on bettering themselves. Take a class or two to make the transition back to school in the fall easier for you. When you spend an entire three months on a couch staring at a television in your pajamas getting back in the routine of going to class everyday can be a struggle. Try to find a summer job or internship. The summer is a great time to focus on building up your resume’ while you have the time and resources to do so. Volunteer around your local community.  Giving back to the community not only allows you to add more “umph” to your scholarship applications, but it also gives you a sense of fulfilment that you helped out with a larger cause. Travel to somewhere new with your friends. You have free time to expand your horizons beyond your hometown and college campus, why not soak up the sun from a new location? Read at least three books. Reading is truly fundamental and actually fun when it’s not assigned for a class!

The main goal for the summer is to focus on bettering yourself and those around you because you finally have the time to do so. The school year is over folks, you can finally exhale.
