LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. –The Atlanta Braves confirm that Kris Medlen, 28, will be out for the 2014 season.
Medlen, right-handed pitcher for the Braves, underwent surgery yesterday to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The “Tommy John” operation was performed in Gulf Breeze, Fla. by Dr. James Andrews who performed the same procedure on Medlen in August 2010.
Medlen went 15-12 with a 3.11 ERA for the Braves in 2013 and was 10-1 with a 1.57 ERA in 2012. He owns a career record of 34-20 with a 2.95 ERA in 152 games. In his 61 career starts, he has gone 30-13 with a 2.96 ERA and a .246 opponents’ batting average.
Medlen last pitched on March 9 in Port St. Lucie against the New York Mets.
