Blowout and Straighten Your Hair- Without the Help of a Stylist!

Straightening natural hair can be such a hassle and sometimes it’s just easier to pay someone to do it.  But what if going to the salon doesn’t fit in your budget?  What if you’re worried about damage?  These are reasons you may want to do a blowout at home.  This is a technique you may not get right on the first try and you should perform this technique on healthy hair.  Trim damaged ends because they will be very noticeable once your hair is straightened.

You will need shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, hair clips, wide tooth and rattail combs, ceramic flat iron, blow dryer, paddle brush and heat protectant.

Start off by shampooing and conditioning your hair.  You never want to flat iron dirty hair.  Add a deep conditioner if you want to really hydrate your hair.  Hydrated hair is easier to straighten and moisture protects your strands from the drying effects of heat.  Next, using a wide tooth comb and leave-in conditioner section and detangle your hair.  Section by section apply heat protectant, but don’t saturate your hair with it.  Then proceed to blow dry your hair with the paddle brush.

When you blow dry start at the ends and work your way to the root.  Then go back from the roots to the ends.  Take your time.  Dry the hair in a downward motion so it can get as straight as possible.  Once you dry all your sections section your hair again in horizontal partings.  Begin smoothing the hair at the nape.

Using your ceramic flat iron, gauge your temperature setting by starting at a low temperature and working your way up on the strands at your nape.  Using thin partings, work your way up your head and smooth each small section with smooth even tension.  Again, take your time.  Once you finish your entire head use the flat iron to complete any finishing touches.  You can add a little curl, or bump the ends.  Then add a light coating of oil or serum.
