Common Hair Problems and How to Fix Them

When your hair looks bad you feel bad, according to MTV2’s Girl Code.  Hair is so fragile; one wrong turn and your hair can go from a soft, flowing (coily for the naturals) mane to a dry, mangled rat’s nest.  Healthy hair is happy hair.  Common hair problems can make your hair unhappy but, not to worry, most common hair issues can be fixed in one swift change in your routine.

Heat Damage

Oh the dreaded heat damage.  You know it when you see it.  In relaxed hair it doesn’t hold a curl and may be a lighter color than the rest of your hair.  In natural hair your curl pattern slowly straightens out.  Heat damaged hair is dry hair because heat dries your hair out.  Heat damaged hair needs to be drowned in moisture and pampered.  Avoid heat at all costs and add a moisturizing leave-in conditioner to your daily routine.  Depending on the extent of the damage you may just have to trim the damaged ends off, but this can be done gradually as your hair grows.  Avoid heat damage by using heat protectant, and using low heat settings when using heat to style your hair.

Fading Hair Dye

You spent all this money to dye your hair the perfect shade and it’s fading as soon as you put the color in.  It’s frustrating but here’s how to fix the problem.  Make sure you are protecting your hair in the sun as the sun’s rays can cause your color to fade.  Also be sure you are using a color safe shampoo; using anything else is hair dye suicide.  You can also try buying temporary hair dye one shade darker than your hair color.  Make sure it isn’t permanent and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.  Your hair color should be revived enough to carry you over to the next hair appointment.  Also check your hair stylist; incorrect color application can also be the cause of fading hair color.

Frizzy Coils

An issue that haunts many natural ladies everywhere, frizz destroys the defined coils you worked so hard to achieve.  First and foremost moisture is the key to fighting frizz.  Before setting your curls make sure your hair has plenty of moisture.  Also when the outside conditions aren’t curly hair friendly, pull your hair up under a knit cap or up in a bun for a little while so your curls have a chance to settle.

Greasy Hair

No one likes greasy hair; it’s limp, icky and just lays there.  Greasy hair can be caused by using too much product or your scalp can naturally produce too much oil.  If you’re dealing with product build-up a good clarifying shampoo can fix the problem.  No time to wash your hair?  No problem;  apply your choice of dry shampoo and once its dry brush it out and your hair is instantly refreshed.  If your scalp naturally produces a lot of oil make sure you are frequently washing your hair.  Use dry shampoo when you’re in a rush.

  1. Howdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with SEO?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good results.
If you know of any please share. Cheers!
