Kendrick Lamar has teamed up with hip hop comedy trio The Lonely Island and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine to hilariously redefine the current definition of the term, YOLO.
YOLO (You Only Live Once) was famously coined by rapper Drake last year in his single, “The Motto.” In Drake’s song, the term was meant to live life carelessly, have fun and blow money because “you only live once.”
The Lonely Island, who is notorious for their comedic songs, redefines the term by warning people to be careful with life decisions.
But don’t think this is just a dry cautionary song warning our generation to value their “precious” lives. These men take it to the next level with ridiculous and hilarious scenarios and warnings throughout the song.
“And wear titanium suits in case pianos fall on ya/And never go in saunas cause they’re crawlin’ with piranhas.”
Kendrick Lamar even joins in on the fun, but actually gives a lot of good advice.
During his featured verse, the “Swimming Pools” rapper advises listeners by rapping, “invest in your future, don’t dilute your finances” and “if you can’t afford it, don’t forge it on your last bill.”
Adam Levine’s signature vocals and YOLO cautions can be heard during the chorus as well.
Ultimately, The Lonely Island, with the help of Kendrick Lamar and Adam Levine, offers valuable advice within the jokes as they comically challenge our generation’s careless definition of YOLO.
YOLO
Be careless?
Or be “cautious?”
