“I see the wounds you’ve made, the scars all filled with pain
I see the hurt in your eyes, driving you insane
I know the nightmares taunt you and the memories bring you fear.
I know all the pain you feel, fills your eyes with tears.
Just know I will be here, until the very end
You can always count on me, I’ll always be your friend.
But I can see your bleeding arms and i wish that you could see,
That every time you hurt yourself you’re also hurting me.”

Self harm is more then just a physical wound. It is an expression of emotional pain, a sign that someone is not coping. Many people believe that self harm is attention seeking behavior, In most cases this is untrue.
People who self-harm are not usually seeking to end their own life; self-harm is usually used as a coping mechanism to relieve emotional pain or discomfort or as an attempt to communicate distress.
Self-harm is not typically suicidal behavior although there is the possibility that a self-inflicted injury may result in life-threatening damage.
self-harm often becomes a response to overwhelming emotional pain or intense feelings such as anxiety, depression, stress, emotional numbness, a sense of failure or self loathing, that the person finds they are unable to cope with.
This damaging behavior can also be a way to gain some sort of control. In some cases people who are self harming feel that it is the only way they can feel in control of their body.
There can be a lot of judgement involved when someone is self harming. This never helps the situation. Remember you never know what someone has been through or what they are going through in their head to make them feel this way. It is important to be as open minded and understanding as possible.
Counselling is strongly advised. It is important that you all know, that you are worth more then this. Everybody deserves to be happy and healthy
If you are self harming, or you know someone who is, it is important to seek help from a professional doctor. I say this a lot but it really is important to talk to someone you can trust.
There is help as well as support and understanding.
